WELCOME TO THE CNEBC WEBSITE
Central New England Brittany Club is the second oldest Brittany club in the United States and
boasts as a member - owned dog, the very first Dual Champion in the United States -
Dual Champion Brit of Bellows Falls.
We are celebrating our 75th Anniversary as an AKC member club this year.
Located throughout New England, our members are united by the love of the Brittany. Our breed is very versatile and excels as a hunting companion, thrives in competition at Field Trials, Hunt Tests, Show, Agility, Rally, Obedience and first and foremost as the beloved family pet.
CNEBC is an active club offering a designated specialty show, two agility trials, two field trials,
two hunt tests, as well as a Members' Day competition
and a June Fun Day and seminar each year.
We welcome new members and are dedicated to helping them learn
how to train and have fun with their Brittanys.
History of CNEBC
The Central New England Brittany Club originated in 1948 and became the second oldest Brittany Club in America. The club was formed because of the keen interest in what was then known as the Brittany Spaniel (formally recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1934) a pointing and retrieving dog. The American Brittany Club was given final recognition by the AKC on July 14, 1944, coinciding with Bastille Day, appropriate for a dog of French origins. The word Spaniel was dropped by the AKC with the approval of the American Brittany Club on Sept. 1, 1982. While still known as the Brittany Spaniel in other parts of the world, it is officially known as the "Brittany" in the United States.
Mr. Lucien Ufford, of Bellows Falls, Vermont, was the first president of the CNEBC. He also had the distinction of having the first Dual Champion Brittany in the United States, DC Brit of Bellows Falls. Brit earned his field championship then his bench championship at Westminster. Brit's importance to the CNEBC was reflected in the celebration of our 50th Anniversary when he was proudly displayed on our T-shirts. We are currently celebrating 75 years as a club.
We are also proud to hold the distinction of having the first Brittany Specialty held in the East on
August 20, 1960.
